For completed coursework and/or degrees, candidates must submit final, official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended, regardless of whether or not a degree was earned at the institution. This includes community or junior colleges that may have been transferred to a 4-year university. If sent electronically, only official electronic transcripts submitted through your institution's Registrar or its third-party processor will be accepted. If sent by U.S. mail, official paper transcripts will be accepted only if sent by your institution's Registrar and sent in a signed and sealed envelope by the Registrar. For any in progress coursework, candidates must submit an official transcript from the colleges or universities where they are currently enrolled. If sent electronically, only official electronic transcripts submitted through your institution's Registrar or its third-party processor will be accepted. If sent by U.S. mail, official paper transcripts will be accepted only if sent by your institution's Registrar and sent in a signed and sealed envelope by the Registrar. International Coursework - It is strongly recommended that applicants submit an international transcript evaluation, by an approved US evaluation agency such as World Education Services WES.ORG or Education Credentials Evaluators ECE.ORG, with individual course as well as degree equivalency annotations, for any postsecondary coursework completed outside of the US. The university reserves the right to initiate such an evaluation, if not supplied by the candidate. By submitting this application for admission, an individual grants permission to the university to do so. An international credential evaluation will be required as a condition of admission, if an offer of admission is made.
A letter from the candidate's primary research mentor is required. Two additional letters of recommendation are required, which can be from professionals and/or academicians who know you well (i.e. research collaborators, advisors, professors, or supervisors). List your recommenders in Section 3. Letters of recommendation must be written on institutional letterhead from the author's place of employment. These letters must be mailed in sealed letterhead envelopes, bearing the author's signature across the back seal, to the mailing address below.
An official score report from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of any applicant who does not hold US citizenship or permanent residency. This test must have been taken within the last two years and scores must be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service (www.toefl.org). Please use Institution Code 1117 and department code 30. This requirement may be waived, at the University’s discretion, for applicants who have been full-time students in a United States college or university for two consecutive years or who are from countries in which English is the primary language. We do not accept the TOEFL Essentials, IELTS, Duolingo or other language assessments in place of the TOEFL.
